13Cinderella works at a large school as a servant. She cleans the classrooms, prepares the meals, and sometimes helps the teachers. The principal is a mean woman who often speaks harshly to Cinderella. Some of the students are rude to her too. But Cinderella is patient and kind. She doesn%u2019t let their words affect her.There are also some students who are polite to Cinderella. They thank her for her hard work and treat her with respect. One of them is Peter. He is the student council president.One day, Peter announces a school dance at the school yard. It%u2019s a special event which the students can have fun, and choose the %u2018Star of the School%u2019.Cinderella wants to go to the dance, but she thinks, %u201cI%u2019m just a servant. I don%u2019t belong there.%u201d She shares her feelings with Peter as she cleans his classroom. Peter says, %u201cCinderella, your work is important. Without you, our school wouldn%u2019t be clean and welcoming. You should come to the dance.%u201dOn the day of the dance, the principal tells Cinderella to stay late and clean the school. Cinderella is disappointed, but she doesn%u2019t argue. When the dance starts, Cinderella is still at work.Then, a group of students help her finish the cleaning early and lend her a beautiful dress to wear. Cinderella is surprised. She decides to attend the dance with their encouragement.
